A large majority of the city council of Harlingen voted in favour of the privatisation of the Port of Harlingen, which will ensure economic benefits.
Employment, transshipment, adding value
The municipality wants to combine the separate ports into one ‘Port of Harlingen’. Creating employment, transshipment and adding value are key factors for privatising the harbour of Harlingen. This will lead to a better functioning port and contribute to municipal goals. Overall, it will also make long term planning possible as well as collaborate with commercial partners more easily. The port of Harlingen is the most important port in the Friesland province. The privatisation will commence in April 2017.
